Who We Are
The New Dominion Choraliers of Prince William County love to sing, to share the beauty and joy of music with others, and to leave audiences feeling energized and uplifted. As an award-winning, non-auditioned, volunteer chorus of dedicated amateur and professional musicians, NDC is recognized for its musically diverse performances and its commitment to serving the communities in which it performs. NDC strives to be a vibrant, premier chorus that provides a supportive environment for the musical growth and development of its members, as well as ample opportunity for individual contributions and accomplishments.
NDC thrives under the direction of Katherine Nelson-Tracey, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Music Education, and a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of North Dakota, as well as a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from George Mason University. Katherine serves as the applied music coordinator and an adjunct professor for Northern Virginia Community College, Woodbridge Campus, teaching voice and piano. She also teaches voice and piano in her private studio in Woodbridge, Virginia. Katherine is founding Director of NDC and is active in the American Choral Directors Association. She has served as Repertoire and Standards Chair for Community Choruses and 2-Year Colleges on the Virginia ACDA Cabinet in the last ten years. Further, Katherine sings with the National Philharmonic Chorale at Strathmore Music Center, Maryland, and is Soprano I Section Leader.
What We Do
NDC has two major concert seasons–Holiday and spring–with two performances of each concert, and often performs a third, special, concert. Major concerts include a variety of musical presentations, including music performed by the full chorus, as well as music performed by two auditioned choruses–a mixed chorus for SATB music, and a smaller women’s chorus. Such concerts also include featured performances such as solos, duets, quartets, and octets. The New Dominion Choraliers are often joined by other community choruses, especially children’s choruses, as well as community dance performers, community orchestras, and special orchestras such as the American Balalaika Symphony, one of only seven in the United States. NDC also engages in many community outreach performances that are open to the public.
Who We Serve
The New Dominion Choraliers is an adult chorus open to anyone who loves to sing, no auditions required. NDC is privileged to serve as a choral ensemble through which students of the Northern Virginia Community College can earn credit toward their degrees. High School juniors and seniors who have a serious interest in choral music are welcome to join the chorus.
NDC performs primarily throughout Prince William County, and is an Affiliate Arts Organization with the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, Virginia. For example, in addition to its two major concerts and various special concerts, NDC has performed community service and outreach concerts at such venues as (1) the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia; (2) the National Federation of Music Clubs National Music Week Celebration; (3) Prince William County Arts Alive Festival; (4) NOVEC’s Annual Meeting and (5) home games of the Potomac Nationals. NDC also partners with many community arts groups in its concerts. Those partnerships, in the past, have included the Mary G. Porter Traditional School Elementary Chorus, Dance Etc. School of the Arts, the American Balalaika Symphony, the Old Bridge Community Orchestra, and the Prince William County Children’s Choir.
